WHAT WE DO

Ensure communication access services by eliminating communication barriers in the workplace, organizations, and community.

Education

Education is a key component in partnering with service providers as they make accommodations with individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Interpreting

Basic health care that many of us take for granted can be hard for others to access. We make sure that underprivileged youngsters and adults have access to the health practitioners they need.

Advocacy

Certified, trained professional interpreters are a vital part of meeting the needs and mandates set before service providers. HCD is honored to be your provider of choice in working w the D/HH community.

HCD SERVICES

Direct Service Specialists with HCD advocate with local providers and the D/HH community to ensure effective communication is provided. Specialists are trained in state and federal mandates, thus can assist in requesting appropriate accommodations.

Advocacy is one of the most vital, rewarding, and challenging jobs we do at HCD. We continue to make great strides in this area to bring education and change to the West Texas area while supporting our local service providers and Deaf community.

It is always our intent to educate our community to prevent violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We work diligently to educate businesses, organizations, and agencies regarding laws that directly impact Deaf individuals and the communities they live in.

We provide training to Law Enforcement officers and other community organizations and agencies. In these trainings, participants learn the cultural and linguistic (ASL) aspects of Deaf community, define terms as stated by the Health and Human Services Code, perform role-play scenarios with Deaf community members, and complete testing on skills and knowledge of the training content. These trainings allow participants to practice simple communication to better make connections with their local Deaf Communities.
